Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Las Vegas man has been convicted of charges stemming from a possibly gang-related shooting in Rochester last year.

19-year-old Thaddeus Merritt was recently found guilty of second-degree assault and two drive-by shooting charges for his involvement in what Rochester Police described as a “rolling gunfight” in a northwest Rochester neighborhood. Merritt was the first of five suspects charged in the case.

The reports on the incident in August of last year said Merritt was initially detained near Lincolnshire Park where police located one of the cars involved in the exchange of gunfire between the occupants of two vehicles. Police did not have enough evidence to arrest him at that time but he and another suspect the case were arrested the following day when they were tricked into picking up the blue Audi at the police impound lot. Three handguns were found in the vehicle.

Merritt is scheduled to be sentenced on October 28th. He is also facing charges connected to a robbery in the city about a week before the shooting.
