Temporary Closure as Popular Cafe Steam Coffee Shop in Rochester Makes a Move
Before you start freaking out and posting rumors on the Spotted in Rochester Facebook page, just chill. This is a temporary closure. It is impacting quite a few people though who go to Cafe Steam at the One Discovery Square building on the regular...like a few of my co-workers. ;). I wanted to go grab coffee today too because I needed a jolt of caffeine before my show thanks to two owls that kept me up until about 1:30 am. I wish I was joking.
If you missed the news, Carly Ross from 106.9 KROC (and my office mate) informed the world that Cafe Steam is just closed temporarily while they are moving to the new building next door. The new place with the new comfy seating will be opening very soon. See that update and a few pics of the new space here.
Side Note to Cafe Steam...I know you are all very creative, but I really loved this added touch to the One Discovery Square spot. It is one of my favorite things. No matter what type of day I was having, I knew I would always get a smile from your baristas, a great cup of coffee, and this cute little note that reminded me not only where to get my coffee order but that I could also accomplish anything. Thank you.
Did Due North Coffee Trailer in Rochester, Minnesota Close?
I had a fan reach out who asked if I could get a verified answer for her on this coffee location in Rochester. She recently came back to Rochester after being gone for a bit and drove over to her favorite spot to get coffee, Due North Coffee Co. by Air Insanity, and she said it was closed. She couldn't tell if it was a temporary closure, closed forever, or what the situation was.
Local first, that's what we are all about at Townsquare Media, and this investigation made me curious because I've written several stories about Due North Coffee Co. They have opened up three locations and I covered all of them - Rochester, Kasson, and the latest in Eyota.
It was time to see if I could help this fan out so I started by reaching out on Monday night via e-mail to Due North Coffee Co. with the following note:
I know that sometimes my e-mails show up as "spam". Not sure if that is what happened here but I didn't get a response back.
I did check the Facebook page and at the moment, it states that they have locations in Rochester, Kasson, and Eyota.
Their website though only indicates two locations - the Eyota and Kasson spots.
Next, I took a coffee road trip to the Rochester location at Co. Hwy 14 in Rochester, drove through the drive-thru and saw the sign that I believe the fan was talking about...
I have old eyes now and didn't bring my glasses but...I did zoom in for all of us that are over 40. IYKYK.
As of right now, Google says they are open.
It is a bit confusing. For now though, it appears as if the trailer is not reopening. If it disappears or I get an update, I'll share that bit of news over on my Facebook page - Jessica On The Radio. Give it a follow so you know what is going on around town.
