Minnesota’s Most Popular Drinking Game Is One You Probably Haven’t Heard Of

If you're like so many Minnesotans, you can't sit down to a drinking game if you aren't playing Minnesota's favorite drinking game. Anything else would be ruinous to your reputation. Of course, playing the drinking games can land you in jail if you drink and drive, act super stupid when you drink, or get fighty when you drink. 

A Conversation That DIdn't Happen

"Did you see Andi at the birthday party? Did you Mr. Tibbs at the pub?"

"No, what did they do?"

"They were playing Beer Pong!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

"Quick let's go judge them for not playing Minnesota's Most Popular Drinking Game!"

Enough Talk, What's the Most Popular Drinking Game in the Land of 10,000 Lakes?

Sheesh, what do I think this is, a recipe? Minnesota's most popular drinking game is Ride the Bus.

Never heard of it? #Same. I looked it up on the internet machine and you will not believe how complicated it is. According to thirllist.com, this is how it starts.

Ride the Bus

• Phase One: Dealing the Cards
• Round One: One player is assigned as the dealer. The dealer shuffles the deck and begins to the left, asking the first player “red or black?” The player guesses whether the card is red or black; if they’re right, nothing happens, but if they’re wrong, they take a sip of their drink. Play continues around the circle until everyone has their first card.
  • Then you do high-low, then inbetween-outside, then pick a suit.

Sounds Like Snoozers, Right?

That's Phase One, there's also Phase Two and Phase Three. See the whole breakdown here. And weep for your liver's early demise if you play all these rounds. Heck, if you even play the first round. That is a LOT of booze.

• Iowa goes for Drunk Janga (which sounds way easier than the game with THREE FLIPPIN' PHASES....sheesh part 2, the remix!)
• Wisconsin keeps it old school with Quarters.
• North Dakota is into Kings Cup, and South Dakota goes with the national favorite, Beer Pong. Beer Pong, by the by, was created in the 1950s and '60s. No one's exactly certain when because..well...beer.
