Ice Cream Fans Big News Is Coming In Rochester

Ice cream news is flowing right now, which is always good to hear.  That latest bit is about to make everyone in Rochester happy because the oldest Dairy Queen in the state just teased some big news.

How Much Do Americans Love Ice Cream?

This probably isn't a shock to you, but I just read a stat that said 90% of people love ice cream.  According to a survey by Baskin-Robbins,

• 5% of Americans stated in the survey that they eat ice cream every day.
• 42% of us living in the U.S. admitted that we devour a bowl or cone at least once a week.

Clearly, summer isn't complete without this sweet treat.

Free Cone Day Returns in 2026

Since we all are apparently ice cream addicts, here's a bit of good news that I wrote about last week - Free Cone Day is back at participating Dairy Queen locations.  Typically, this happens on the first day of spring.  But this year, participating stores are providing this fun, free treat the day before.

In the past, I've noticed that Free Cone Day is typically the time a lot of the Dairy Queen locations come out of hibernation in Minnesota.  Opening day normally varies between all of the locations that have closed for the winter season.  But thanks to a recent tease on Facebook, it seems like my guess could be close again this year for the oldest Dairy Queen in Minnesota.

If you drive by the Dairy Queen in Rochester at 538 N Broadway Avenue, you'll notice two significant changes:

1) The large, white boards covering the windows have been removed.

2) A sign that says "now hiring" is also up.

I noticed that the other day and knew that good things were about to happen for all of us who love the taste of Dairy Queen ice cream.
