I had a mini-heart attack when I saw that Porch was closing their doors.  They are pretty well known for their fried chicken and I was hoping the closing wasn't another casualty of Covid-19.  Good news - they aren't closing for good.  Bad news - a favorite of mine that used to be on the menu is gone forever. #cuethetears

Good news - Porch is going to stick around but their dining area is currently closed to get a new look and get ready for a new name.  They've been teasing a lot on their social media pages and a sign just went up on their porch indicating the happy news. Their new name is going to be Porch Fried Chicken.  As you can guess from the name, the tasty fried chicken is staying on the menu.

‘The chicken you are about to eat is very personal to us. It represents hundreds of hours of trials, years of searching, and heated debates, to offer fried chicken that we are proud to stand behind. It all starts with our brine, made with heavy citrus, that soaks plump drumsticks and boneless thighs and breasts for 24 hours. Our dredge, made with rice flour for that crunch we all love, is next. Then, it is dipped in Kapper’s Big Red Barn buttermilk (a local farmer) and dredged again. The chicken then gets dropped in our pressure fryer and cooked to our desired look and texture. Please feel free to slather your chicken in local honey butter, and don’t forget the lemon! We hope you can find the sensory joy in this experience’.   -Justin Schoville, co-owner, co-founder & executive chef - from the porchrochester.com website

Bad news - my favorite, the brisket, and the other smoked meats are off the new menu.  The last day to grab those were July 3rd.  I didn't see the news on Facebook until it was too late, so I missed the final day to grab my favorites one last time. 😢

Looks like everyone will have a chance to enjoy the new look in 2 to 3 weeks.  While we all wait, let's chat about what restaurants are missing in our town.  What foods are you craving that you wish would show up in Rochester?  Let me know by sending me a message over on my Facebook page (Jessica On The Radio) or DM me on Instagram.  My family is hoping and wishing for a Cracker Barrel.  🍽️
