She was born here in Rochester, and she's starring in a new Christmas movie that hits TV screens for the first time this weekend.

Even though we're due for some unseasonably-warm weather this weekend, if you want to get in the holiday spirit, you might want to check out the Hallmark Channel, which is already into its Countdown To Christmas... because a famous actress, who's also a native of Minnesota's Med City, premieres on Saturday, November 6th at 7pm.

That actress would be Lea Thompson, whose new movie, 'Next Stop, Christmas' premieres Saturday on the Hallmark Channel. And it sounds very similar to another classic movie for which Lea is also known.

According to the Hallmark Channel, the plot of 'Next Stop, Christmas' goes something like this:

Angie is determined to spend Christmas alone but her usual commuter ride turns into a Christmas train that drops her off in her hometown in 2011.

Hmmm. A movie about time travel? Sounds a little like, oh, 'Back To The Future,' doesn't it? Of course, Lea Thompson was one of the stars of THAT classic movie as well, playing the character Lorraine Baines.

And, yes, Lea IS a proud native of Rah-Rah-Rochester. This Post Bulletin story from 1998, when Lea was starring the NBC sitcom 'Caroline in the City,' says she and her family lived in a house near Edison School (now the Rochester Public Schools administration building).

Even though the story said her family moved away from the Med City when she was only 6, she still remembers things like her brothers fishing golf balls out of the Zumbro River and going swimming at Soldiers Field Pool.

Also interesting to note is that along with Lea, Christopher Lloyd has a part in 'Next Stop, Christmas,' as well. Which is ANOTHER tie to Back To The Future, because Lloyd played Doc Brown in that classic 80's movie.

While Lea was born here in Rochester, she's not the only celebrity who's set foot in the Med City. Keep scrolling to check out some of the famous folk who've been spotted here in southeast Minnesota.
