Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester School District is reporting a bump in its graduation rate.

A report issued by the Minnesota Department of Education on 2018 rates for the state shows the Rochester district’s four-year graduation rate for all students is up from the previous year. It also exceeds the statewide average.

According to the report, Rochester Public Schools’ graduation rate in 2018 was 87%, compared with the state average of 83.2%. That was the highest state rate on record.

The 2017 rate for the Rochester district was 85.8% and the 2016 figure was 86.2%.

RPS says the four-year graduation rate for its three comprehensive high schools was 92.

The district added:

“There has been a gain in the subgroups of Black, Two or more races, English Learner, Special Education, and Free or Reduced Lunch students. Additionally, the graduation rate for all RPS students and all subgroups is above the state average.

Superintendent Muñoz attributed the graduation success to identifying individual needs of students and interventions.

“We focus on developing relationships with students and identifying
the individual needs of students,” said Superintendent Muñoz. “I am proud of the work at all of our sites. Our teachers, support staff, and administrators are identifying programs and interventions to address students’ needs.” Multi-tiered interventions, more social and emotional support, and an increased number of educational pathways for students are several additional factors attributing to RPS’s graduation rates.
