Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Work continues on Rochester’s newest dog park and it could be ready for its first visitors by the end of the month.

The city Park Department obtained a parcel of land a short distance north of Essex Park in a swap with Olmsted County for property it needed for the 55th St extension project.

The site is located west of West River Road and north of 62nd St.

The park will eventually replace the existing site located along West Circle Drive near the Northern Hills golf course. The new park is larger than that site and offers more parking.

The Park Department says more work will be completed next year.

When all is said and done, the site will contain three separate fenced areas for dogs to run. Community garden plots will also be developed to replace those lost to the 55th Street project.
