Heartbreaking Loss: Rochester’s Iconic “Real Santa” Who Sparked Holiday Magic Dies
As many of us were enjoying our Memorial Day, sad news flooded the internet about one of our most beloved individuals. Unfortunately, a guy that many of us have brought our kids to, had photos with, has passed away.
Heartbreaking News: Rochester's Real Santa Has Passed Away
About 16 years ago, I had the chance to meet the Real Santa for the first time. I knew that Santa was at the Apache Mall...at that time, I just didn't realize it was the Real Santa. My kids brought their lists and most of them thought that the visit was pure magic. Every family has one kid who screams when they see Santa...I have that in my family, too. The one with the pacifier in his mouth is that child at my house.
Throughout the years, the Real Santa spent his time in various places in Rochester during the holiday season. Eventually, he was just showing up at ABC and Toy Zone and scheduling a time to grab that precious photo opp was needed.
The Real Santa was an icon in this town, and today, many of us are holding on to the memories we've had with him throughout the years. According to a post by ABC and Toy Zone, the Real Santa, also known as Jerry K. Julian, has passed away at the age of 72.
I know many of you loved this gentle soul as much as I did. Rest in peace Santa. ❤️ - ABC and Toy Zone Facebook Page
According to the obituary posted at Legacy.com, Jerry was showing up for kids and families as Santa for over 25 years. But he wasn't just showing up during the holiday season. Jerry "embodied the spirit of giving in all that he did".
Christmas will still be magical in 2025...but I think we can all agree, something we loved will be missed dearly in Rochester, Minnesota this year.
