You Won’t Believe This: Shooting Star Captured During the Northern Lights on Tuesday
One of the most magnificent displays of the Northern Lights showed up in Minnesota on Tuesday, November 11th. About 7:20 pm, one of the most amazing views of the Aurora Borealis appeared thanks to strong geomagnetic activity.
Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, California, and many additional states started reporting views with multiple colors. Below are some of the most amazing photos from Tuesday night's powerful display. The best one is the last one...so shocked that one of my kids caught this on camera.
Gorgeous Photos Of The Powerful Display of Northern Lights in Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois
Earlier tonight, I was sitting at Century High School in Rochester, Minnesota for the end-of-the-year football celebration. While I was there, I started getting a ton of Facebook messages. Facebook Messenger only blows up for two reasons: 1) my birthday, and 2) when something big is happening. I'm not eating any birthday cake tonight, so I knew something big was going on in our world.
As soon as we were done celebrating all of the kids, I saw the words from a friend, "I hope you are out and about" along with the following photos. That's when my mouth dropped!

I immediately hopped on Facebook and asked on the Y-105FM page if anyone else grabbed a photo. If I thought my phone was blowing up before, it was now pretty much on fire. EVERYONE was outside...but not just in Minnesota.
Just outside of Chicago, Illinois, my brother-in-law grabbed this photo.
Down in Bloomington, Illinois, my niece was able to catch this pic.
It doesn't happen very often, but the solar flares were so powerful, Iowa was getting a show Tuesday night as well! Below are a few photos from my mom in the Fort Dodge area.
Shooting Star Caught On Camera During The Northern Lights on Tuesday
I wasn't sure if it would be possible, but since the Northern Lights were so strong, I told my kid who lives in Wichita, Kansas, that he should try to see them.
Not only did he see them...he and his roommate also caught a shooting star on their cameras!
Did You Grab Photos Of The Northern Lights?
Isn't it amazing how different and how fast the Northern Lights change. Even in a matter of minutes we saw bright pink in the sky and then lines of green. If you are curious about how the different colors show up and why, check out Space.com. That site has a great explanation of what atmospheric gases are getting hit and at what altitude that help create those specific colors.
If you did manage to grab a few photos, we would LOVE to see them. Feel free to check out the Y-105FM Facebook page and add yours. Don't forget to give a few thumbs up and hearts to the others who added theirs, too. All of the photos are a great reminder to slow down in life, take a moment, and just enjoy it. You never know what you might be missing!
