
Twin Cities Man Sentenced for Hammer & Knife Assault at St. Olaf College
Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Twin Cities area man has been sent to prison for a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend at the St. Olaf College campus in Northfield.

Three others were also hurt in the assault. He entered a plea agreement to settle the case in August.
The attack occurred over three years ago. The case was prosecuted by the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office at the request of the Rice County Attorney’s Office.

Twin Cities Area Man Sentenced for Knife and Hammer Assault of Ex-Girlfriend, 3 Others in St. Olaf Dorm
William Davis Schulenberg of Excelsior, who is now 23, was accused of climbing into a dorm party through a window at Ytterboe Hall on May 1 of 2022.
He then struck a young woman’s head with a hammer multiple times and stabbed her in the neck, according to the criminal complaint in the case.

Three others intervened and Schulenberg struck two of them with the hammer and cut the third with a knife before he was subdued, according to the court document.
Schulenberg was originally charged with first-degree attempted murder and three counts of second-degree assault. One of the second-degree assault counts was amended to attempt to commit second-degree murder.
Prosecutors also added a first-degree assault count and two second-degree assault counts.
Under the terms of the plea deal, Schulenberg was convicted of the assault charges in exchange for the dismissal of the murder-related counts.
Schulenberg was sentenced to 91 months in prison on Monday.
