Rochester seems to be THE PLACE for "The Voice" singers to give free concerts.  We just had Chris Kroeze, a runner up, at Thursdays Downtown and I just heard that a finalist from 2018 will be in Rochester on September 12th.

The United Way of Olmsted County has a HUGE day of fun set up for September 12th, 2019 and everyone is invited to join them for a day of action and a free concert.  Tish Haynes Keys, a finalist in 2018 on "The Voice", will be performing, and it will be a concert you won't want to miss.  All the concert info is below...so keep reading!

Before the free concert, United Way of Olmsted County has a day of action where anyone in the community can help show their local love.  We are a big town, with lots of fancy buildings and roads that are kept up quite a bit compared to a lot of other communities.  Rochester isn't perfect though and we have people in our community that need help...just like every other community.

Poverty.  Homelessness.  Mental Illness.  Social Isolation.  These are just the start of what people in our community are dealing with every day.  You might not seem them but families are sleeping in tents.  Kids in our school system are homeless, and I worked with some of these families for years.  I know about mental illness too and how it plays a part in the lives of adults but also kids because I have a kiddo that suffers from this too.

I'm so glad that there is an organization in town like United Way of Olmsted County, because they aren't yelling at the people who are needing a place to stay, a place to stay warm in the winter, throwing food at them in the skyways (yes...it happens, and people are spitting on our homeless too!).  They don't point a finger telling people to go somewhere else.  They know that these issues exist, and actually a lot more too, and they are rolling up their sleeves and digging in to show love.

You can roll up your sleeves too!  To put it bluntly, our community needs to show more love to each other...not just to those with the fancy cars but those that are living in their cars.

United Way of Olmsted County is kicking off a Day of Action and they are inviting YOU and even the company you work for to join in.

United Way of Olmsted County is kicking off our annual campaign by engaging 125 companies and thousands of families, and individuals to rally support for those in need to reach their full potential, as well as a chance to donate some of their time and talent to complete projects for more than 20 area, non-profit agencies and their clients! You can paint a room, fix what’s broken, file and organize, build something, or lend a hand by doing what needs to be done.

Are you ready to roll those sleeves up?  If you’d like to sign up as a company, please call or email Kris Brewer at 507-287-2487 or krisb@uwolmsted.org If you’d just like to sign up as an individual or group, click here.

That concert...well, it is free for everyone and will start at 5 pm at the Hilton Rochester-Mayo Clinic Area.  Space is limited though so if you want to get in on the action, register right now at www.uwolmsted.org/ShowYourLocalLove
