A black moon sounds more intimidating than it is. It's just a more interesting name for the second new moon of the month. Yep, black moon sounds way better! And we'll be able to see this black moon over Minnesota Wednesday night (7/31).

Black moons are actually relatively uncommon. New moons happen about once every 4 weeks but a black moon, KARE 11 reports, only happens once every 29 months. So that means there won't be another black moon until April 20, 2022.

We're lucky enough to be able to see the black moon this time around simply because on the other side of the world it will already be August, making it just a plain old new moon.

Keep your eyes on the sky starting at 10:11 PM Wednesday night, that's when it will officially begin!

Hang out with Carly Ross on The Mighty 920 KDHL weekdays 1-5pm!
