What Should You Be When You Grow Up?

I always kid around with people that I still don't even begin to know what I will be when I grow up!  I may be a terminal adolescent.  This is good, right?  Why do we want to grow up anyways?  Age is, after all, just a number!   However, with age, comes wisdom, and it's pretty obvious that it doesn't really matter what we do, one thing is for sure, we're going to eventually grow up!

I just took it and it said to me, "You should be a writer!"  It goes on to rave about my skill with language and ideas and how I need to share that with the world. Well this is indeed something to ponder. I was a little bit shocked by the results, not that they are, by any means, an absolute. I don't think I ever pictured myself writing anything other than for my own enjoyment.

 It also mentioned that my brain is just overflowing with ideas.  Well, now, THAT, I will agree with.  I will say that it's probably a good thing that people do see all that spaghetti I got tangled all over in my head and firing off up there.

 Then again...  I used to spend hours upon hours up to the wee hours of the morning writing songs.  Yes I used to write songs.  I remember in kindergarten for show and tell, I wrote a song that I had written on the board to show my classmates.  I thought it was pretty awesome.  It went something like this... "We all love love..I love.. You love.. love."  Ok, so I was like five or six.  And hey, think about how many songs contain the word love?  I think it just may have been brilliant.  It's too bad that YouTube was not around back in those dark ages, I would have been a rockstar by now for sure!  I have buckets upon buckets of songs and poems and stories I used to write.  I know I probably have tons of pictures somewhere of me writing and playing, but here I am.  A young little whippersnapper.

Yes, that is me.  Over the years in school I was told over and over again by professors and teachers, 'Whatever you choose to do when you grow up, I hope you write.'  Hmmm, maybe I am supposed to write something.   Look here I am writing to you.

The thing is though, I enjoy doing just about anything, that is, if I am given the freedom to explore.  I think there must be something to kids and children when they are so young.  Kids don't put themselves under the pressure adults do, and they just do the things that are fun and interesting.  Perhaps we all need to think about learning how to be more childlike?  Even us 'Terminal Adolescents.'  Really, shouldn't we all take a deep breath and smell the roses?  Life is so short...
