Rochester, MN(KROC AM News) - Sunday will be the first full day of Spring 2016 in the northern hemisphere.  

The Spring or Vernal Equinox occurs at the moment the sun is directly above the equator. The spring equinox in Rochester will occur at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Spring will end this year on June 20th, the first day of summer.

The meteorological spring began March 1st and runs through May 31st.  

The weather was more winter-like in Minnesota Saturday.

There were numerous traffic wrecks and other mishaps around southeast Minnesota and in the Twin Cities Saturday morning due to slick roads caused by light snow. There were also several wrecks on I-35 in southern Minnesota. Most of the wrecks were minor.  

The National Weather Service says between 1- 2 inches of snow fell across southeast Minnesota Friday and early Saturday.  Friday’s total at the Rochester.
