Every parent has heard the stories of child abductions.  On Thursday night, fear was evident among parents as news spread over Facebook of a possible attempted abduction in Stewartville.

The first message on Facebook showed a picture of a dark SUV with the statement:

Does anyone recognize this vehicle? The occupant(s) offered my son and his friend candy to get in the vehicle at 16:36 on Thursday January 25 in Stewartville.

As a parent myself, this message caught my attention.  This is a situation that no parent should have to fear but unfortunately, this is happening in our world.  Educating our kids on what to do in situations like this is an important lesson we can't dismiss.

Authorities were contacted and the community joined together to help spread the word about this potential abduction.

Thankfully, no one was hurt and an update was shared on the original Facebook post:

Status update: The guilty party has been identified. Thankfully, it was a local adolescent who had a momentary lapse in judgement. Thankfully, no one was hurt or injured, but lots of parents were presented the opportunity for safety discussions with their children!!!

Our community came together tonight and this is a great reminder to take a moment and talk with your child(ren) about stranger danger.  Here are a few helpful resources that I found that might work for your family:
