My friends and I love to do karaoke. I won't lie to you, we aren't very good at it, but music brings us lots of joy. So, when I came across The Music Space of Owatonna I was quite enamored.

Each Thursday from 7 pm to 9 pm they have Open Mic Night with Rachel Schroeder.

Now, it doesn't have karaoke, but it does have a lot of local talent.

The Music Space of Owatonna building is currently under construction, but that hasn't stopped this crew from sharing their love of music. The temporary home of Open Mic night is in the green space across the street from Music Space on Cedar.

The Space features regional, touring, and local singer-songwriters. Schroeder performs original and covers songs most weeks.

All ages are welcomed. Capacity is limited and masks are provided to customers if needed. Workers sanitize microphones between each performer, as well as the windscreens between the singer and the crowd.

Most nights there is no cover charge, but a $5 donation is suggested. Usually, the Music Space has a selection of soda, juice, and other drinks.

The venue recently got some new windows! Construction is coming along beautifully.

When open, the building is also the only record store for miles.

Open Mic night is a great opportunity for new songwriters. Perhaps I should learn how to write songs, so I can show off my 'impressive' music skills. Though, maybe my talents end with karaoke.
