Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A scary experience Tuesday night for a Rochester woman.

The 36 year old was home with her 10 year old child when she took a shower in an upstairs bathroom around 11:30 p.m. Just as she was finishing, she heard the family’s dog bark and yelled, thinking her husband had just returned home. Instead, she heard footsteps and the rear door open. That’s when the woman realized she had just scared off an intruder and called 911.

After police arrived, the woman went into her bedroom and noticed her jewelry box was open and had been rummaged through. Police suspect the intruder made entrance through the rear door, which apparently was not locked.

It appears the intruder walked past the bathroom while the woman  was showering and went into the nearby bedroom. The woman told police it appears the intruder left empty handed.

The house is located in the 4400 block of 57th St NW in the North Park neighborhood.

Police say the incident should serve as a reminder about making sure all doors are locked.
