A huge fabric and craft retailer just announced that they are closing 533 stores in the United States. Unfortunately, quite a few addresses of Minnesota locations for the craft retailer, Joann, are on the list.

Joann Announces 533 Stores Are Planning to Close in the United States
On Wednesday, February 12th, it was reported by USAToday.com that Joann (also known as Joann Fabrics) made the difficult decision to close 533 stores in 49 states. When I first saw the story, I noticed that this decision was the result of filing Chapter 11 for the 2nd time in less than a year.
According to a story by CNN, Joann filed for bankruptcy the second time in January 2025 due to "sluggish sales and inventory issues".
Being one of the shoppers who tried shopping at a Joann store a few times in December, I'm sad to lose this store that has been around for over 80 years but I'm not shocked by the news. The areas I wanted to get to in the store a few months ago were completely inaccessible. Caution tape was wrapped around an entire section of the store because boxes were piled in the aisles. I would have had to climb over large boxes stacked 3 or 4 high in order to get the item I needed. This was visible in multiple aisles. I can't imagine what the storage area looked like if this was visible for customers on the floor.

What Joann (Fabrics and Craft) Stores are Closing For Good in 2025?
An official list of store closings has not been posted to the public but a list has been provided in court documents. (See that here.). On Friday, February 14th, a court hearing will be happening to approve the list.

There isn't a timeline announced yet for the closings but it is anticipated that "Going Out Of Business" signs will show up soon at the following locations in Minnesota:
