Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The man arrested by Rochester police Tuesday for making threatening comments about a prominent local businessman had just been in court last week due to another incident.

During the hearing for 58-year-old Christopher Caffes, a mental health evaluation was ordered by the court. He was later released after posting bail and then a few days later was arrested after police say he made the threatening comments.

Court records show the businessman told police Caffes had left “weird messages” on his phone and that he took the threats “very seriously.”

Caffes is accused of threatening to attack the businessman with a knife. A knife was found in his backpack when he was arrested.

He was charged last week with violating a court order to stay away from a family member who was also fearful of Caffes. The court was told Caffes had been living in a tent in the person’s backyard. The family member also told the court Caffes has a long history of mental illness and drug use.
