Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester fire crews were called out just after midnight Wednesday to battle a blaze that broke out inside a house located at 1801 10th St NE.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Belau says the family’s pet dog saved the occupants by alerting them to the fire. They got out safely.

It appears the fire began in an upstairs bedroom. The cause is under investigation. Belau says the fire caused extensive damage.

A few hours earlier, crews were sent to an old abandoned farm house at the intersection of 31st Ave and 48th St SW. The building was completely engulfed when crews arrived and it was decided to let the fire burn itself out. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
