Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A house in Rochester’s Country Club Manor neighborhood sustained significant damage Sunday after a fire broke out around 3 p.m.

The home, located at 444 43rd Ave NW, was occupied, but a passerby reported the blaze, which apparently began in the garage.

The passerby entered the home and helped an elderly man get out safely. The man told the passerby his son was still in the home but he could not be located. It was later learned the son had left to run an errand before the fire began.

The garage, a car and a boat were fully engulfed when crews arrived and the blaze was beginning to move into the attic area. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes but the preliminary damage estimate to the home was put at more than $100,000. A house next door sustained minor damage to some siding when an ember started a small fire.

No word yet on the cause of the blaze.
