Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The University of Minnesota-Rochester has a new chancellor and it’s a person already very familiar with the campus and the community. U of M President Kaler says Dr. Lori Carrell’s appointment is scheduled to be confirmed by the Board of Regents on Friday and take effect on Monday.

“I am confident that Dr. Carrell will provide strong leadership for UMR,” said President Eric Kaler. “She will be a tireless advocate for UMR in our University of Minnesota System, and she will continue to build on UMR’s relationship with the dynamic Rochester community.”

Carrell has served as the Interim Chancellor since August following the retirement of Stephen Lehmkuhle, who had served in the leadership post since the campus opened in 2007. She came to Rochester in 2014 from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to serve as UMR’s Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Development.

There are currently about 700 students enrolled in UM-R's graduate and undergraduate programs at the campus in downtown Rochester.
