You can't open the news without hearing about a vehicle accident happening in the state of Minnesota.  In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, there were 64,711 motor vehicle crashes on our roads in 2023.  And sadly, deadly crashes in Minnesota were up over 15% in 2024 than the year prior.

The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety has been collecting traffic data for years.  Traffic fatalities occur for a variety of reasons and below are the top factors from 2020 to 2023.

• Distracted Drivers - 7% (110)
• Not Wearing a Seat Belt - 24% (373)
• Speed - 34% (525)
• Alcohol - 35% (535)

In 2024, the same factors above were looked at for the accidents that involved fatalities:  (December numbers not included)

When you come up to a roundabout as you are driving, do you get angry?  Are you happy it exists?

40% of accidents happen where an intersection exists.  When a placement is put in a location, it is for a reason - for you to be safe.  We should be happy about it.  But sometimes, we get stuck behind that one person who doesn't know exactly what to do.

According to The Hill, Minnesota has about 500 roundabouts.  Based on the data of other states, we are a state that has a higher number of roundabouts.  Wisconsin has a few more roundabouts than Minnesota but the Land of 10,000 Lakes has twice as many as New York!
