Pier 1 Imports is just the latest in a long line of retailers to announce they're closing many of their stores. Will Rochester's location be affected by the plan?

2019 was another tough year for many retailers across the country and here in southeast Minnesota. (In fact, click HERE to check out this list of local Rochester businesses who say good-bye and closed their doors last year.) And even though we're only a week into 2020, it looks like the dire news for retailers is continuing.

According to this CNN Business story, home goods retailer, Pier 1 Imports, is the latest chain of stores to announce a plan to close many of its locations. "Pier 1 operated 942 stores in the United States and Canada at the end of its latest quarter. It said Monday that it will close up to 450 stores 'in order to better align its business with the current operating environment.' Pier 1 will also close distribution centers and lay off corporate employees," CNN noted in its story.

Pier 1 Imports operates a store here in Rochester, located in the Crossroads Center, off South Broadway and Highway-14, near Aldi and Savers. Will it be affected by this round of closings? The CNN story didn't specify which specific Pier 1 locations are marked to be closing and the official Pier 1 website didn't contain any information about which stores are set to close, either.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. But, hopefully, Rochester's location won't be one of the 450 set to close their doors.
