ILLINOIS: Large Hail, Damaging Winds, And Tornadoes On The Way

It is going to be one of those days where we need to stay weather-aware. Mother Nature is throwing her wrath across the Midwest. At the moment, Iowa is bracing for damaging winds, possible tornadoes and some nasty hail. Minnesota residents were told to secure all loose items because by the end of the day, they may have blown away due to damaging winds. Illinois is set to be the next target and below is the latest information from the National Weather Service.

Damaging Winds, Large Hail, Thunderstorms, and Tornadoes are Possible in Illinois on Tuesday

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday, April 16th, is going to be a day when Mother Nature is showing her power. Burlington, Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Quincy, Springfield, Effingham, Jacksonville, and other towns throughout the state will be impacted. Here are a few of the key points to know to help you stay weather-aware:

THUNDERSTORMS - Central and Eastern Illinois could see thunderstorms in the afternoon to mid-evening. Be alert as some of these may be severe.
HAIL - biggest chance for hail on Tuesday will be west of the Illinois River. The size of the hail could be very large.
TORNADOES - biggest risk for this type of weather is west of the Illinois River.

Although the chances for a tornado and damaging wind aren't extremely high at the moment, the threat is still there for parts of Illinois.

Residents in Freeport, Chicago, Ottawa, Rockford, and other cities in Northern Illinois should also be ready for the impact of severe thunderstorms. It is anticipated that damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes could appear between 5:00 pm and 11:00 pm as a result of this storm.
