Rochester’s Soldiers Field Golf Course Opening This Weekend
In a sure sign spring's here, Rochester's Parks and Recreation Department has announced that its public golf courses are opening soon.
Sure, the calendar might say that it's been spring here in southeast Minnesota since Saturday, March 20th (at 4:37 a.m., to be exact) but here's another sign that the warm weather might actually be sticking around: Rochester's public golf courses are set to open soon.
And by soon, I mean, like this weekend. That's right, according to a post on the Rochester Minnesota Golf Facebook page, the golf course at Soldiers Field Park in Rochester is opening Saturday, March 27th at 9 a.m. Tee times will be available starting Friday, March 26th at 12 p.m. (Call 281-6176 to make yours.) And, golf carts will be available-- as long as there isn't significant rain. (There IS rain in the forecast for Saturday, check the full Rochester forecast HERE.)
Meanwhile, Eastwood Golf Club plans to open its driving range this Monday, March 29th, with the front nine holes set to open Tuesday, and the full 18 holes opening on Friday, March 2nd. Hadley Creek plans to open the golf course and driving range at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 29th as well. The post noted that Northern Hills Golf Course off West Circle Drive still needs more drying out, hopes to be open on or around Thursday, April 1st.
Of course, thanks to the pandemic, there are still some special rules in place, their Facebook page noted:
Our COVID-19 safety protocols will begin this season, much as it ended last fall, with guidelines in place (and available for view on the web at RochesterMnGolf.com) for all golfers. We expect these guidelines to be modified as the season progresses, but we'll always follow or exceed State guidelines to provide a safe golf experience for everyone.
Now, we just have to hope Mother Nature holds off Old Man Winter as we head through the last few days of March and get into April, right? Getting out and hitting the links in the spring is something to which MANY Minnesotans look forward. But not everything in the spring in Minnesota is fun, though.
