There’s A New Soccer Field In Rochester!

My kids have been in the sports world since they were about 3 years old.  Local parks were always around and that is where we went for soccer, football, and baseball practices and games.  But...imagine a neighborhood in Rochester that didn't have enough green space for all of the kids that wanted to play.  That was the reality for many kids in our community.  Thanks to a lot of people, organizations, and grants, a new field is now ready for these kids.

The Meadow Park neighborhood is celebrating today because they are kicking off their new soccer program!  Located in Southeast Rochester, Meadow Park is home to a lot of kids but parks and green space is limited.

Hope Summit Church had some land that they weren't using very often and agreed to take that space and help convert it into a soccer field for the neighborhood.  According to a press release from the United Way of Olmsted County, "so far, nearly 40 players have signed up to practice with volunteer coaches who represent the largest cultural groups in the neighborhood, Somali and Latino. Teams for both boys and girls are organized by age group, and play is scheduled for five nights a week."

This field is truly a collaborative effort and is thanks to grants from Olmsted County Public Health Services and Scheels.  Several organizations have shown their support as well, including Family Service Rochester, Intercultural Mutual Assistance Association, and United Way of Olmsted County.

A celebration is happening on August 7th from 6:30 pm - 7 pm on August 7th at Hope Summit Church in Rochester.
