Restitution and Probation for Trashing Stranger’s House
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -An Owatonna woman has been sentenced to two years probation and has been ordered to pay over $6,600 in restitution for tearing up a Rochester home last summer.
The sentence was handed down to 21-year-old Mackenzie Hill after she pleaded guilty Thursday to a gross misdemeanor charge of third-degree criminal damage to property.
She was arrested last August after she went to the home of a 70-year-old woman with dementia near St. Mary’s Hospital and asked about a dog before knocking over a china hutch and throwing stuff around the house, causing thousands of dollars in damage. Hill was later found a few blocks away pushing a four-year-old girl in a stroller and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for an evaluation because it appeared she was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Police later learned she was a personal care attendant for a woman staying at the Rochester Ronald McDonald House with her two children. The woman told police she had gone to St. Mary’s Hospital to be with one of her children and left her four-year-old daughter with Hill.
