Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Rochester Lourdes hosts Byron in its homecoming game Friday night and the Eagles players will wear No. 11 on their helmets and have a moment of silence to honor Jacob Wetterling.

Jacob wore No. 11 when he played soccer and his family have asked that people showcase No. 11 to honor their son and help make the world a better place for children.

The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center said the idea came from Jacob’s mother, Patty Wetterling. Not only does the number honor Jacob and his love of sports, it also signifies 11 traits people are encouraged to be conscious of in promoting a culture of compassion and kindness.

The traits are: being kind, fair, understanding, honest, thankful, a good sport, a good friend, joyful, generous, gentle, and positive.

“This story has affected our state and nation’s past, the confession has shaken our present, but the incredible example of resilience displayed by Patty Wetterling gives way for a profound hope for the future. Through this small gesture, we aim to exemplify the traits cited above, spread awareness of the need to practice care and kindness toward others, and, in that way, allow Jacob’s hope to live on through our youth,” states Lourdes High School Principal, Paul Menard.

The game will take place  at 7:00 p.m. at the RCTC Regional Sports Stadium.

Rochester’s three public high schools are also in action Friday night:
